instructional development professionals. Participants
may include staff of instructional development
programs, teaching and learning centers, those

Pathways to the Profession of Faculty Development
: An International Perspective
Funding Agency : Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council of Canada
Educational development is a specialized occupation
that has evolved in higher education over the
35 years. Teaching and learning centres and
programs, and educational developers themselves,
however named or titled, are part of the college
and university landscape across the globe. While
pressing issues may vary at anyone time in our
individual contexts, we all belong to and are
situated within the fabric of educational development.
The synergy that comes with having a dynamic
team of varied experiences and caliber works
in our favour as we prepare to come together
the end of June 2007 in Ottawa, Ontario. Here
we will achieve the following objectives.
- To share position papers on the educational
development scene in our home countries and
our own pathways into the profession;
- To offer a professional development workshop
and panel to new educational developers at the
sixth International Institute for New Faculty
Developers which is occurring in parallel;
- To prepare an international research proposal
to submit to our local funding agencies to foster
ongoing cross-cultural collaborative scholarship;
- To develop the framework of a book for new
developers providing a cross-cultural perspective
of educational development pathways and perspectives;
and
- To develop a web site that is readily accessible
to the development community to disseminate
our position papers and forum reflections.
